How to Transfer a Domain at Extensions That Require Extra Confirmation

Some extensions have special transfer procedures or additional steps that need to be taken into consideration when launching a transfer to Gandi.

If the owner information for the domain at the registry is different than your account at Gandi, our system will automatically create a new account for the domain’s owner. You should therefore take care to double check this.

.BE

  1. Go to https://www.dns.be to request the authorization code for your domain from the registry.

  2. Launch the transfer operation on Gandi’s website and enter the authorization code you obtained via the registry.

  3. Follow the instructions as indicated on our website.

.ES

The transfer of the domain name is launched at Gandi. Then, the registry sends an email to the administrative contact, who must accept or refuse the transfer within 10 days by using the link in the mail. If no confirmation is provided in that period it is automatically cancelled. In this situation you can generally relaunch the transfer for free.

.FR

This type of transfer works with the authorization code obtained from the current registrar.

Once the code has been validated, the AFNIC registry sends an email to the current registrar. This email serves to notify the current (losing) registrar of the transfer. If it is validated by the registrar, the domain is transferred almost immediately.

If it is not validated by the registrar (no action taken), the domain is automatically transferred after 8 days.

If the registrar responds with a refusal, the domain is transferred within 22 days, giving all protagonists time to settle the dispute.

.LU

The administrative contact must accept a confirmation mail within 15 days.

.UK, .CO.UK, .ORG.UK and .ME.UK

  1. Make sure that the domain name does not have a TransferProhibited status (ClientTransferProhibited status does not prevent you from starting the transfer via your registry account).

  2. Update the domain’s IPS tag at your current provider. Contact your current registrar and request that the IPS tag of your domain be changed to: “GANDI

  3. Within 5 days, submit a transfer request to Gandi. We will then send you a link via email which you must click to confirm. To submit this request go to https://shop.gandi.net/domain/transfer and, after logging in, launch the transfer request of the domain name.

If you wait more than 5 days after changing the IPS tag to submit a transfer request with Gandi and confirm it via email then the IPS tag will be rejected. If this happens, you can request to change the IPS tag again and then submit a transfer request with Gandi.

.JP

A confirmation email is first sent by Gandi. You must click the link in this email within 5 days to approve the transfer.

Later, a second email will be sent with another confirmation link. You must click the link in this email within 14 days to approve the transfer.

If you miss the window for either of these emails you can contact our support team to have either email resent.

The registry will then send an email to the previous registrar to confirm the transfer. The registrar must respond within 10 days or the transfer will be canceled. The previous registrar will sometimes also send another email to the owner requesting confirmation.
