Once i renew the certificate do i need to change anything in the hosting environment?
I renewed the cert but the cert still has the old expiration date, do i need to do something else as well?

I have the same problem. I renewed my ssl for 2 years, but the expiration date on the admin page went from Sept 8, 2011 to Sept 30, 2011. Bug?
Actually, certs are not "renewed" as such, but re-generated with the same name and the later expiration date. What you will see is a new cert with the same name in the list with the expired one. You don't need to go through validation again, but you will need to activate the cert, and then download and install it in the same place (server) as the old expired one.
