I didn't find this so believe it's not available but am still asking anyway:

Is there a way to get GANDI to issue an automatic e-mail to another e-mail address to say "You've got mail in your GANDI account" ?

An interesting suggestion, however the problem is that it would generate a significant quantity of mail and a resulting load on our platform. One thing you could do, however, would be to use mail forwarding, and just forward the mails to your 'primary' mailbox.
