Adding a reverse DNS

Question "error when adding reverse DNS", by Chris L.

when i try this i get an error saying my domain needs to be in my DNS as a A record (or similar) so i added:

mydomain.com 10800 IN A 123.123.123.123 (with proper name and IP)

to my zone file but i still get the error, is this incorrect or do i need to let the zone record propagate or something?

Answer, by Geoff S.

You need a trailing dot like so:

mydomain.com. 10800 IN A 123.123.123.123

otherwise you will end up with an entry specifying mydomain.com.mydomain.com.

Cheers, Geoff.
