Question "DNS zone update times", by William B F.

Once I make a change to my DNS zone file via Gandi's web interface, how long does it take for that information to actually make it to Gandi's DNS servers? Are updates scheduled, or is there a delay, or what? It's clearly not immediate.

Answer, by Achille

It seem to be once a day.

Answer, by Stephane T.

No, it's less than that, maybe 10 minutes. It seems that c.dns.gandi.net is updated before the others.

For example right now I have :

dig in cname www.xxx.org @c.dns.gandi.net

;; Got answer:

;; →>HEADER«- opcode: QUERY, status: NXDOMAIN, id: 5552

;; flags: qr aa rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 1, ADDITIONAL: 0

So "www" is not there, which is correct, since i've deleted this alias (CNAME). But it's still define on server a :

dig in cname www.xxx.org @a.dns.gandi.net

;; Got answer:

;; →>HEADER«- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 33379

;; flags: qr aa rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 3, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; WARNING: recursion requested but not available

;; ANSWER SECTION:

www.xxx.org. 10800 IN CNAME ghs.google.com.

Right after finishing this message, a was updated. The longer delay it from the user interface to server c, then the others are updated withing 1 or 2 minutes.
