Question "Creating new zone", by Arthur Pierce P.

I appreciate the ability to share DNS edits between domains using the same zone. However, it appears I have limited control over this ability. That is, I can't create a new zone, rename a zone to something meaningful to me (all I see is "Gandi Zone", "Gandi Zone 2007", etc).

I'd prefer to duplicate an existing Gandi template and name it something meaningful, like "LeftasGroup" or "HostedAtCsail" before making any changes. As it is, I can never quite tell whether my changes are going to have adverse effects on other domains.

I have to concur with Arthur that the ability to manage zone file names & versions is a great idea, but Gandi's current implementation is HORRIBLE! Without a "copy zone file" it is very difficult to make good use of it.

Further, the "By Default" feature does not appear to work… the control panel says it has set a particular zone file as the default, but when transferring a domain to Gandi, the standard Gandi Zone is still used. This then causes outages because all the wrong zone information is used.

@GANDI: please fix this and turn it into the really great functionality that you originally envisioned!

For Arthur: https://www.gandi.net/admin/domain/zone/list is our current way to manage various zone files. You can set various zone files as default, rename any non-default zone file, and delete any non-default zone file that is not in use.

For everyone: Changing our DNS and zone file management is our top priority for our next major revision.
