I was wondering what is the purpose of the secondary MX address? I just left the default Gandi nameserver.
My host (OVH/Kimsufi) only provides secondary nameservers for the A record.
There should always be a secondary mail server, however, it is not possible to use Gandi's mail server as a secondary mail server. The form will let this be entered as a value, however this may cause your mails to not work correctly.
There is another point of view which seems to be favoured on the Internet that a secondary mail server would only serve as a backdoor gateway for spam, especially if it is incorrectly configured. A legitimate mail server will retransmit the same email for few days if for some reason it was rejected or delayed, so a secondary mail server would be redundant and only adding unnecessary complexity.
