I've just initiated a transfer of my domain burian.net to gandi. I have questions about how I'm going to manage my DNS after the transfer, since I guess I have to transfer the DNS to Gandi's servers as soon as possible after the transfer since they're going to be shut off, right? I certainly won't be able to manage them any further through my old registrar.
Rather than making up fake entries, I just copied some of the entries since there's nothing private about this table as far as I can tell.
On my old registrar's manage page there is a nice table with entries like this:
Host Address Record Type * http://cburian.homedns.org:81/ URL Redirect @ http://cburian.homedns.org:81/ URL Redirect ba http://beeradvocate.com/user/profile/cburian URL Redirect brew http://cburian.homedns.org:81/brew/ URL Redirect leah http://cburian.homedns.org:81/~leah/ URL Redirect www http://cburian.homedns.org:81/ URL Redirect
Record Type is a drop down box that can choose URL Redirect, CNAME, A, AAAA, TXT and maybe a couple others. But I only use URL Redirect.
If I remember correctly, I can't use either A or CNAME entries because my ISP blocks port 80, so must include the port number. Also, I use DynDNS Updater, free tool to back feed my dot address to an alias (cburian.homedns.org).
Regarding Gandi domain management, the instructions say "use the zone file" but the examples don't list URL Redirect, only A, CNAME, MX and TXT.
How do I do these entries once I switch to Gandi DNS?
Thanks, Chris
