Welcome to the documentation for Gandi SSL Certificates. With our SSL certificate offers, you can claim your free SSL Certificate, or purchase a Business or Professional certificate for a domain, a subdomain, or a wildcard certificate good for multiple subdomains.
SSL certificates are an optional, advanced encryption facility that allows your users to know that they have reached specifically your site, and that the web traffic between their system (their browser) and your site is encrypted. Certificate authenticity is guaranteed by a third party known as a Certification Authority. SSL certificates add value to your hosted web properties, and are especially useful for hosted e-commerce systems.
Important:
Please remember to first create a mail account for user admin on the domain you wish to secure before proceeding to validate your certificate. You will need to access email sent to user "admin" from Comodo at your domain to compete the process. The creation process for a Gandi certificate occurs in several phases:
This will launch the validation process. Once the certificate is validated, it will appear in your SSL management screen under your Gandi handle, and you can proceed to install it on your server.
The sections below guide your through this process.
In order to activate your SSL Certificate, you need to generate a CSR, or Certificate Signing Request. This is an encrypted text block that uniquely specifies who you are, and especially the domain name (and subdomain or wildcard) that you want to use for the certificate. You need to use specific software to generate a CSR, and you will need to copy and paste the resulting block into the web form to activate your request.
Here are a couple of examples (by no means the only available options) for generating a CSR. You will need to specify the software used when you generate it as well, so it's a good idea to do this all in one session so you can keep track.
The validation process differs for each type of Gandi SSL Certificate. The higher the level of trust required, the more stringent the validation criteria, and the more documentation needed.
