Hosting resources management

You can manage your hosting resources from the control panel on the Hosting section.

You will be able to view the availability and the use of all resources you subscribed at the top of page.

You may add or release resources with the manage your resources button.

Resource share definition

When we developed our Cloud hosting solution, one share did represent 1/64 of the global capacity of a physical server.

Resource share composition

As our hardware platform has evolved, we have decided to increase the power of a share in terms of performance.

Gradually, to benefit from better flexibility, you will be able to subscribe to each resource of a share individually.

Now, a share represents resources that may be broken down into:

  • ability to create a VPS (or, in the future, a network device such as a load balancer). This includes:
    • 0.75 quota of a CPU core,
    • 0.66 quota of load balancer slot that allows you to use the network device.
  • additional 0.25 quota of a CPU core (you get always 2 cores with a minimum of 5 shares),
  • 256MB of guaranteed RAM memory,
  • 8GB of disk quota (SAS RAID 60 or ZFS),
  • a network interface (dedicated address IPv4 + IPv6) including 5Mbits of dedicated bandwidth (without traffic limit).

Except bandwidth, which is still tied to shares, each resource can be bought individually as so-called optional resources.

Important:

A share contains all necessary resources to create a virtual server. But you may also use each resource individually and add each one to the needed servers.

Warning:

If a resource is about to expire and you do not wish to renew it, you must ensure it is not in use or attached to any VPS, otherwise your VPS will be "paused" (placed in redemption)!

Adding shares or resources

You can manage your resources by clicking "Manage resources" in your hosting administration panel. On this page, you will be able to add/modify/release the desired resources.

Removing a share

Still the "Manage Resources" button of your hosting account's "Gandi Cloud VPS" section, click on the "release" link :

You will be taken to the Share Removal page.

Select the number of shares that you want to remove and click on "Submit" to complete the operation.

Note:

Only shares that are not attributed to a server can be released.

Add or remove a share from a server

In the "Gandi Cloud VPS" section, click on the name of the server for which you want to modify the power.

In the "General information" section, use the "RAM memory" function to add or remove RAM memory on this server.

At the bottom of the page, you can modify the disks attached to your VPS to increase their sizes.

For the bandwidth too, you are able to modify it by clicking on the pen icon at the bottom of the VPS management page.

Use of a resource share

Once you have added at least one share, you will have all resources needed to create a VPS.

You may now choose to create your VPS in AI (automated install) mode or to create the server in expert mode.
