Using a web host to receive *and* send e-mail via their DNS

Note:

In order to use your domain name to send and recieve e-mail using an e-mail client such as Mozilla's Thunderbird, Apple's Mail, or Microsoft's Outlook, via POP/SMTP, you must subscribe to the services of a web host, who will provide you with an e-mail server.

You then will need to tell your web host the name of your domain so that they can configure their DNS to handle your domain, and give you their names (pirmary and secondary servers) so that you can apply them to your domain. Note: there is no need to transfer your domain to them in order for this to work, you just need to let them know the name of your domain.

Then, you need to create the e-mail address that you want via their web interface; there is no need to contact Gandi to do this, because your web host will be in charge of handling your e-mail. Your web host will also tell you your POP/SMTP password and settings.

Once you have configured your e-mail at your web host, you need to change the DNS attributed to your domain name at Gandi. To do this, begin by logging into your domain's control panel with the owner, administrative, or technical Gandi handle (remember, if you have more than one domain, you need to click on the domain in your list of domains).

Then, look to the "Technical Settings" section towards the bottom of the page…

…and click on the "Update" link in the "Technical" column, just under the two DNS.

This will then bring up the DNS list interface. Simply replace the existing nameserver information (ex. a.dns.gandi.net, b.dns.gandi.net, and c.dns.gandi.net) with the names of the nameservers provided to you by your web host:

If your DNS change was successful, then please wait about half a day before testing. This is because it can take this long for the information to propagate the internet. If you have any problems with your e-mail, you need to contact your host, because Gandi has absolutely no control over your mail, we simply point your domain to your web host.
